Meghalaya

A bridge to the untrodden paths of the world

Nestled High at an altitude where the beautiful land appears to kiss the clouds above, MEGHALAYA lures everyone with its outright magnificence. The gorgeous valleys and milky rivers enveloped in swirling clouds makes the place the perfect picture-postcard of Northeast India. With its great potential in tourism MEGHALAYA stands tall in pride. The state is the major crowd puller amongst all the other northeastern states. The tourism department has formulated various policies to attract more domestic and international tourists which would culminate in a economically developed state, generating abundant employment opportunities. MEGHALAYA tourism is central to the development of infrastructure in the state and thereby providing facilities to the public at every tourist site. The tourism of the state is also focused on the development of various areas of tourism such as nature based tourism, cultural tourism, health resort tourism, art and craft tourism and adventure tourism to be precise. Adventure tourism is the most crowd pleasing realm of tourism today and MEGHALAYA lags no further in meeting the expectations of the tourists. A paradise for trekking, caving and water sports, Meghalaya also is advanced in adventures of rock climbing and hand gliding.
The capital of meghalaya is Shillong which is also known as the “Scotland of the east”. The state is regarded as the wettest region of India recording an average of 1200 cm of rains a year. Unlike many Indian states, Meghalaya has historically followed a matrilineal system where the lineage and inheritance are traced through women.
